Beta-glucanase

The glucanase will attack on the cellulose fiber to liberate smaller fragments of cellulose which is further attacked by exo-cellulase to liberate glucose

Enzyme Classification No: EC 3.2.1.4
Recommended name: endo-cellulase.
Systemic names: endo-1, 4-beta-glucanase (endoglucanase I) endoglucanase II, endoglucanase III.

Cell wall modification (beta-glucan breakdown) is regarded as a key step in extract development during malting and brewing. It has been suggested that the rate of modification, of the grains of a barley sample, is principally determined by their contents of cell wall beta-glucan and their potential to synthesise beta-glucanase. Therefore, malt samples, which contain low beta-glucan levels and high beta-glucanase activities, are considered suitable for brewing. However
Preparation of endo-1,3(4)-beta-glucanase produced by Aspergillus aculeatus , Trichoderma longibrachiatum, Trichoderma viride Glucanase catalyses the reaction mentioned below.

A) 1, 4 beta glucan + cellobiose fibers.
B) Cellobiose + glucose.



Applications of Beta Glucanase

  • Beta Glucanase digests fiber. It helps remedy digestive problems such as malabsorption.

  • Beta Glucanase is a very important enzyme because the human body cannot produce it on its own.

  • Beta Glucanase helps in the breakdown of plant walls (cellulose), and increases the overall efficiency of binding excess cholesterol and toxins in the intestines for removal.

  • Beta Glucanase may be beneficial for food and environmental allergies, drug withdrawal, cell detoxification, colon cleaning and pain syndromes, Candida (yeast infections), gas, bloating, acute food allergies, facial pain or paralysis.

  • Beta Glucanase is used for commercial food processing in coffee.

  • It performs hydrolysis of cellulose during drying of beans.

  • Beta Glucanase is used in the fermentation of biomass into biofuels, although this process is relatively experimental at present.

  • Beta Glucanase is used as a treatment for Phytobezoars, a form of cellulose bezoar found in the human stomach.

  • Beta Glucanase is used in animal healthcare as a feed supplement for better FCR and Milk yeild Inhancer in Poultry and Cattle industry.

  • Beta Glucanase is used in textile industry as a fading agent.
